HELLO! We are a fun, 30 something, bi-lingual family living in the capital city of Lapland in Finland. I, (amanda) am from the USA but have been living here in Finland for over 10 years now. My fiance, Sami, is Finnish but speaks english very well. I have 3 children from a previous marriage...Nico age 8, Elli age 6, and Niilo age 4 (almost 5 :) The children are also bilingual so speaking with them in english is not a problem! :D All the children go to school/daycare mon-fri from 8:00-15:00. Nico is just the sweetest, most well behaved boy you will ever meet. He is typically very reserved and loves to follow rules :D he is in the second grade and loves science. Elli is a dynamic firecracker of a girl! She is super creative and loves to draw and design clothes. She is loves ice skating and animals. Niilo is a lovebug. He loves to cuddle and be close to us. He is total boy and thinks all fart and poop and pee jokes are the funniest thing is the world, but he always aims to please and is just the sweetest thing. Sami and I both work in the medical field. He works as an anesthesia and emergency doctor and I am working as an anesthesia nurse. We are both very busy with our work, which is why we are seeking the help of an au pair. My job has me away in Helsinki during most weekdays, however I am home on the weekends and every third week on friday or monday as well. The children will be at their father's house 2-3 weekdays/week according to his work schedule. We definitely are a busy family, but we are a happy loving family and we put alot of effort into making our time together
What we need from our au pair: A main task of our au pair will be to drive the children to and from school/daycare on days that they are at our house. Therefore a drivers license and experience driving is essential. An example of a typical week schedule for your would be: Monday & Tues: take children to and from school/daycare. Prepare dinner for children, play time until 19:30. Then bath time, then bed time around 20:30. Weds & Thurs: au pair's free days while children are with their father Friday: Retrieve children from school/daycare, Prepare dinner for children, play time until 19:30. I will come home on fridays around this time. Weekends are in general also free time for our au pair. Sami and I should both be home on weekends, therefore it will be your free time. We also need the help of our au pair in keeping the house tidy. Because sami and I are working so much during the week, we rely alot on your help with the cleaning and washing the childrens clothes. What we provide our au pair: We have had many au pairs over the past few years and we always take their advice on the best compensation package for our next au pair. SO to start we offer you your own private apartment (located at our home). You will have your own bedroom/living room, private bathroom and shower, and private kitchen. We provide you with a mobile phone and internet connection. You will also have use of one of our cars. Spending money we offer 200 euros/month and then an extra 100 euros/ month for food. We of course encourage our au pair to eat with the children on days you are with them..this is obvious. However we have noticed that due to the different cultures we come from, our au pairs have often had quite different taste in food than finnish people, therefore we feel it is much easier to just provide you with the money to purchase whatever you want to eat, whenever you want it! :D We also will do our very best to provide you with anything else you might need during your stay with us!
