Hi. We are Amanda (wife), Jamie (husband), Mia (daughter, born February 2013) and Ben (son, born June 2014). We are both teachers and we live in Ilkeston, which is a town between Nottingham and Derby in the East Midlands region of England. The area is will served by public transport, education and the arts. London is about two and a half hours away by train. We are looking for someone with an easy-going attitude, but who is happy to work hard for our children's benefit on the days they are with them. We hope to find someone who is keen to share their life experiences and interests with our family. It is important to us that the successful au pair is quite tidy - although we are not neat freaks - and happy to join in with normal family life as much as possible. The best type of person will probably be someone who is active, but not overly sporty. We would also like someone who is intelligent and interested in academic pursuits, but not to the point of obsession. A sound grasp of English is important, but obviously improvement of your use of the language is probably one of the reasons you are thinking about becoming an au pair, so we do not expect perfection!
We are looking for an au pair starting in August 2015 who can look after our two children between about 07:00 and 16:30 Monday to Friday. We are both teachers, so our au pair will have similar holidays to us. By August, Ben will be about 14 months old and Mia will be about 2.5 years old. Mia is a very active girl who loves being outside or playing alone. We are keen to continue her socialising with children of her own age and Amanda is currently taking her to toddler groups to encourage her social development and the successful au pair will need to continue with this important aspect of Mia's life. Ben will have developed a lot by the time you become a member of the family, and it is obviously essential that you work with us to make sure that his development is continued when you come to join us in January. It is also clearly important that you are comfortable working with a baby. This will be our main priority when finding an au pair, so if you are not comfortable looking after a baby then this is not the best option for you; however, if you are, then please contact us through this page.
