We are looking for someone to join our family in Scotland to look after our 6 and a half month old son from July for one year. We would prefer someone with experience of looking after a child this young but most importantly we are looking for someone to show a lot of love towards Finlay, our son, who is so far a very happy baby. As we will be living in a small town called Addiewell, 30 minutes from Edinburgh, our au pair would ideally need to have a valid driving licence. There is a train station 10 minutes walk from the house so you can be in Edinburgh within 30 minutes and Glasgow is also around the same distance the other way. There are a few shops in Addiewell but our au pair will have access to the family car during the week and any day to day expenses like petrol costs, outings and food will be covered. My husband, Mike, and I (Natasha) both work in the centre of Edinburgh. I work Monday to Friday in a design agency from 9am to 6pm but there are times that I may need to stay later. My husband works in a restaurant and each week his shifts change and he will be going back to university part time in September. For these work and study commitments, we need our au pair to be flexible and supportive of potentially last minute schedule changes.
The rate of pay will be between £70-£100 per week depending on hours worked and the successful applicant will have their weekends free. We will never ask our au pair to work weekends but they will be more than welcome to stay in the house if they have no plans. Your day would normally start around 8am when I leave for work until 6pm (sometimes later) when myself or Mike is home. Each week, we will discuss your weekly work schedule as there may be times that Mike will be in the house in the morning and you can have some time off. You will have at least 2-3 days notice of your shifts for the upcoming week so you can make plans for your own time. Your duties as well as looking after Finlay will be doing light cleaning like laundry and dishes, and helping to keep the house tidy. We have a cat so we need an au pair who likes cats and more importantly, is not allergic to them! Our au pair will have their own bedroom and food and board are included in this position. As well as your weekends free, you will be entitled to 20 days holiday per year plus bank/public holidays (approx. 8 per year). If you want to take any days off, we would ask for 2 weeks notice so we can make other arrangements. If you are Portuguese speaking and feel you might not have enough confidence in English yet but want to learn the language, I speak Portuguese and my husband speaks a little bit so you can feel comfortable that you will be understood!
