We are looking for an au pair to live with us, and help us look after our two children Summer (6) and Bonham (4). We also have a dog called Daisy. We live on a beautiful English country estate/farm, 40mins - 1hr from London depending on the train. In the summer we have cows grazing here, and in the winter it is run for traditional English shooting parties of pheasant, grouse etc. The children go to school in the local village – 8 minutes drive away which has many English medieval buildings still standing. It is an idyllic village with 3 pubs, a handful of shops, a stream, and a park for the children. Our local towns are Baldock, Letchworth, and Hitchin (where the English course is). We use these towns for our shopping etc, and sometimes drive into Cambridge at the weekend. We live in a 3 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and two reception rooms. We have a large garden with vegetable plot, polytunnel and chickens. The au pair room is up a private stairway so there would be some extra privacy. We will be able to provide a TV, DVD, wifi. We are hoping that someone can come to stay with us for 9 - 12 months. We would be willing to contribute towards an English language course if our au pair would like that.
The duties would be looking after the children, helping with the school run, and doing some light housework, such as vacuuming and tidying. We have a weekly cleaner, so there would be no heavy cleaning required. Summer is at school from 9 - 3pm, and Bonham finishes school at 12pm, so our au pair would need to look after him in the afternoons, before picking Summer up from school. Mum (Anna) works 3 days a week, so the rest of the time she would be around to help out and share the childcare. There is a language school near us (about 15mins in the car or by train) that runs an English language course, and we will also put you in touch with other au pairs in the area that we know about, so you can make some friends and have people to do sightseeing with etc. We only have one car, and are quite remote, so we will have to negotiate times that are mutually suitable for sharing the car. We will therefore need someone who has a driving licence, and we will ask them to undertake a driving assessment. We have a train line 10 minutes walk away, that goes to Cambridge and London. We would be happy for you to use our car to get to your English class, go on sightseeing trips while the children are at school, etc. If you want to visit Cambridge or London you would need to get the train.
