Personal introduction

Greetings from Scotland! We are looking for a new au pair to look after three lovely children in our home in a small village in the Scottish Borders on the North Sea Coast near the town of Dunbar. We have had four previous au pairs over the past five years, from three different countries. We hope you might be interested in coming to be a part of our family, and help look after our daughter and two sons. We are now a family of five following the recent arrival of a new baby boy, who is now 3 months old and joins his big brother, who is 3 and a half and at nursery four mornings a week, and a big sister, who is five and a half and starting her second year of school. Mum will return to work full time after her maternity leave finishes at Christmas as the local church minister and Dad is currently a trainee solicitor who will be starting a new job in the autumn. We are in 10 minute walking distance of the sea, a beach and a harbour, and you will have access to a bike, the swimming pool and leisure centre, and many scenic walks in the countryside around our house. The city of Edinburgh is one hour by bus from the village, or twenty minutes by train from Dunbar and we are happy to drop you off or pick you up within reason, or you can stay away at weekends if not working. You are most welcome to join us in our family times, or to do your own things.

The Au pair's job

Our schedule is busy but reasonably flexible as mum is based at home and tries to spend time at home during the day, because she is often out at meetings in the evenings. Our au pair would be free to attend English classes one to two days a week (one being Friday), and to have most Friday and Saturdays free to explore our beautiful country and make new friends, or spend free time as you wish. In return, we would expect the au pair to work three full days, one part day, including three to four evenings a week as well as helping take the children to church a few Sundays a month. This will include help getting the older two children ready for school, and then tending to the full needs of the baby such as nappy changing, feeding, putting down for naps and playing with the two boys in the afternoon, and helping at tea time in the evenings. We live in a small village with a shop, a hall and a school, and are fifteen minutes by car from the nearest town. There are not many young people in our area so you will need to make friends through English class or by joining local groups, like drama, music, or exercise, for example. As mum is the local minister, our family are well known in the area and we need someone who is friendly and approachable to others, whether out for a walk with the children or when someone comes to the door. There will be one week paid holiday for every three months worked. Please get in touch if interested.
