We are a family from the wonderful exciting city of Cardiff in South Wales - I live with my husband and 3 children. 2 girls aged 7 and 4 ( both at school) and a boy (18 months). We live in a house close to the centre of Cardiff ( capitol city of Wales) and therefore close to bus, train and air links. Cardiff is a thriving city with lots to do - many shops and theatres but also not far from the beach and beautiful countryside. My husband and I both work in the theatre and are directors so our working hours can fluctuate, especially when we are working on a show, but we have a very relaxed household and attitude. We need an aupair who can be adaptable and flexible in their approach and 'go with the flow' a bit. We have hosted a number of au pairs before and keep in touch with them. Our au pairs become part of the family and the children really enjoy the experience of meeting new people and welcoming them into our home. As we work in the arts the children are also passionate about creative play and love theatre, dance and music! I love nothing more than to come home to see art work they have created or a 'show' they have prepared. An aupair who can balance having fun, being a big sister and be part of the family.
The main work is to help look after the children - starting at about 8am and finishing at 6 pm. We should expect you to pick them up from school and take to their various classes (all walkable), to play with them, do arts and crafts, cooking, walking, going to the park and having fun not just putting them in front of the television. Being outside and being creative as much as possible. Also it is helpful if you can cook as sometimes you will need to prepare food for the children if we are back late. My husband is an excellent cook and speaks Spanish. For me I would like to find an au pair who can work with me to make the household run smoothly, keep in contact with me during the day (we can provide a phone) and who I can trust. It is also helpful if you can tidy up after the children ( ideally encourage them to tidy up after themselves - you are most definitely NOT their servant!) and to help out with general household chores like washing - just what you would do in any house you lived in! We also have a baby boy who you would also care for during the day - he is 1 year old and really good company.
