We would love someone who is happy, warm, friendly, affectionate, outgoing, full of initiative and fun. She would need to be flexible and easy to be around. First and foremost though, someone who is very good with children.
We are a happy, busy family living in a very friendly community in South West London. My husband works in the city and I am at home with the kids and try and get my work done around their schedules. I teach baby massage classes from home and antenatal classes in the evenings - and I have recently trained as a doula. This means that when my client goes into labour I need to go to her and leave someone at home to take care of the children and run the home, until my client's baby is born. Some babies are born in a few hours but others take much longer so I would need to be able to trust my au pair to take over completely in my occasional absence. The au pair would therefore need to be flexible and happy to be available to help me work in this way. It would mean that she would have to be on call when I am on call. This would not be all the time of course, and so when I am around and not on call she would have a lot of freedom to enjoy the local area (we are a ten minute walk to the tube and a twenty minute tube ride into central London), to meet with other local au pairs and to study if she wanted to. We do not have a very big house but we are very loving and she would have her own room and be made to feel part of the family from the start. I have a lovely cleaner and so the au pair wouldn't need that to help around the house very much, maybe just some light tidying and laundry folding - never ending jobs! I love cooking and would happily feed her although she would be welcome to cook for herself if she would prefer.
