We are a mother (48), father (54) and our five year old daughter, Phoebe. We have two young dogs (cockapoos), a tropical aquarium and an elder daughter (20) at university. We live in a nice house near Worcester city centre, approximately 15 minutes walk so it is really easy to go in town, where you can find lots of shops, coffee bars, pubs and clubs. We have had an au pair since 2013 - two in fact - and they have both stayed longer than they intended to. Our current au pair, Anna (from Italy), is leaving to go to University in our city in the Autumn and we're very pleased for her. Our old au pair Gemma (from Spain), still visits us regularly - she returns often to Worcester as she has a boyfriend here and comes from Spain to stay with him and still sees us. We have visited Gemma's family in Barcelona (Anna came too as part of her introduction to being our au pair), and then we went to Italy skiing to meet Anna's family at Christmas this year. We like having a young person staying with us, and sharing their culture, recipes and experiences! Our daughter is in Reception, the first year of school, a short bus ride from home. We have an office very close to our house and we have our own businesses - designing and building houses and gardens, and running a holiday apartment business in Plymouth, near the sea. The au pair is part of our family, not just to look after Phoebe. Our au pair is at the centre of our family and the main purpose is to make family life happy and manageable for us all. We give a lot, and we expect the au pair to join in with us! There is an established au pair network in Worcester that you will immediately be introduced to. We want at least 2 weeks handover with the new au pair and Anna before she leaves so you can learn the job, our routine, what she usually does with Phoebe when they are together but also know about Worcester, the English language classes and the other au pairs here. The au pair has a nice, quiet and private bedroom at the top of the house, and shares a bathroom with only Phoebe. We can offer a very varied experience. The tasks include help with Phoebe when needed. We might need help in the morning to get her ready or get her breakfast ready when she comes downstairs. Sometimes we need help with the school run in the morning (not that often) and in the afternoon to pick Phoebe up from school. Washing and ironing for the family and some housework (eg lighting a fire, keeping things tidy) but we do have a cleaner every two weeks. Cooking dinner for everybody mon-thursday. Playing with and walking our dogs (though we take one to the office every day). Looking after the fish and the aquarium. Very occasional babysitting - Phoebe usually comes out with us! Anna has travelled with us and we are keen to show her the experiences our country offers. She also travelled with the other au pairs over the UK but also in Europe. We are really flexible with the au pair's holiday as our jobs allow us to have flexible hours, (we just need to know it weeks in advance so we have the time to organize everything). We want the au pair to be happy and enjoy the experience while working with us. We put a lot of effort into it being a two way relationship.
