We are a family of 4 with two lovely children named Jessica, who is 7 and James who will be 6 in April. We also have two large dogs, a cat and some fish and we live in a house about a mile outside the town of Wendover in the Chiltern Hills in Buckinghshire. We are looking for someone to join our family and help us out in our juggle with work and children. We live in the countryside near a lovely town and are looking for someone who enjoys the outdoors and loves animals (and children of course hehe). London is a 50min train journey away so the bright lights are not too far. We treat our au pairs as part of the family, and everyone in the family chips in to help keep the home running. We all take turns cooking in the evening, unloading the dishwasher, running the Hoover round. We aren't looking for a cleaner (we have a cleaner who comes in once a week) but we like having an extra pair of hands around the house helping out. We have had a couple of lovely au pairs so far and they will always be part of our extended family, we have got to know their families and have been very happy for their visiting friends and family to stay with us. We have helped our au pairs get other jobs - there is definitely scope for this as we really only need you for an hour or two in the morning and evening - our current au pair also has a job as a teacher at the children's school! We really believe that it is our job to help you settle in and get to know people and make a new life and have great adventures. We want to show you the best of what the UK can offer. You would need to drive as we are
We are a busy, active family who enjoys the outdoors as well as cooking and entertaining friends and family. We are fairly laid back, travel a lot and have family and friends around the world, we really enjoy meeting new people and sharing our home. My husband works in London and I work all over the place but tend to work at home 2-3 days per week which is great. My schedule is quite unpredictable though and I am away overnight every few weeks or so which is why we need the flexibility of a live-in au pair. On an average day we need help from around 7am getting the kids ready for school, very often I am around so it is a joint effort, one of us making toast while the other does Jessica's hair and listens to James practice reading. Some days, if I have to leave before 7, you would do this on your own, other days if you have other things to do and I am at home I can sort them on my own. It really isn't hard work, more just joining in with the daily routine. One of us would drive them to school at around 830. In the evening you would need to pick them up at around 330 -4 (later if they have activities) bring them home, give them some supper at around 5, hang out with them, help with homework, then pop them in the bath and bed (they are tucked up by 1930). Again if I am around this can be a joint effort/ I can take care of it on my own. Weekends and evenings are free - you can join in or do your own thing. We do all tend to eat together at around 730 / 8 ish taking turns to cook (you don't have to be an awesome chef - just throwing some jacket potatoes in the oven if we are both coming home late is such a great help!) It's a nice way to catch up what has been going on during the day. We are always happy for any friends you make to join in too.
