We are a family made up of Kate (mum) (33 years, Scottish) and Daniel (dad) 46 years British but Spanish family and fluent Spanish speaker. Our son is Nicolas 3. I am currently pregnant with baby number 2. Our lovely boy Nicolas has a diagnoses of Autism. This means that he is developmentally behind and requires assistance with tasks such as dressing. He also does not talk much yet. Previous special needs experience is not essential but an attitude to learn about Nicolas's situation is important. He will be attending a special needs school next year. Nicolas is a lovely, affectionate child and is very happy in the company of someone new providing you are happy to go with the flow. We expect the aupair to come and live with us with the expectation of becoming a part of our family. We have warm personalities and treated our last au pair as a good friend.
Our Aupair ideally should be willing to do some cooking, some cleaning, (but NOT every day- i'm not one of those mums!) and help and support me with the kids. Generally our last aupair did 2-3 hours every afternoon and helped with bath and bed. The biggest day for us as a family is a Saturday as this is the only day of the week that i (mum) works so in time Daniel will need support juggling 2 kids. I very much expect you to be a support and a 'family' member but I am not unrealistic with my expectations- there are some jobs that are for the mum only! ;-)
