We are a busy family with children who love horses, ballet, gymnastics, and live music (guitar and piano). At home we have two lovely dogs, a cat and a number of chickens! Needless to say life is centred on the children’s busy social and sporting activities. We are therefore looking for someone who can share the children’s passions for their various activities; a genuine interest and love of horses would be an advantage. We live in a small village in the beautiful county of Somerset with good access to Dorset, Devon, Avon and Wiltshire i.e. in the west of England. The family lives in a traditional old English house and as an au pair, you would have your own room and access to all the facilities in our home. We eat together every evening and this provides an opportunity to catch up on the day’s events and share news. All weekends are free for you to discover the country in a car that you may use, although you are equally free to join in with our family activities as you wish. Both parents work; one as a teacher and one as a pilot. Granny also lives with us ensuring that, if required, there is always someone to go to for help or advice when we are at work.
On average you would be required to help for 30 hours a week; the main requirement is taking the children (aged 10 and 14) to school by car and therefore an ability to drive is essential (we provide a number of lessons through a qualified driving instructor to ensure that you are confident to drive in the UK and for you to be aware of the UK driving expectations). The day starts early at 0700hrs and in the afternoon you would be required to collect the children from school, starting at 1530hrs and take the youngest to her clubs (horse riding, ballet and gymnastics). When my husband is away you would be asked to prepare the evening meal; so an ability to cook basic meals would be an advantage. On Monday’s and Friday’s cleaning and tidying of the main rooms in the house such as the hall, sitting room, dining room and children’s bedrooms are required.
