Personal introduction

Hello, my name is Hannah and I'm 36. I have recently returned to work after 9 years off. During this time I had three children and have been the main carer for them since birth. Returning to work has meant a big change to my family. My husband works long hours and leaves early in the morning and gets home late in the evening, sometimes he also works nights. I am looking for someone to become part of our family to give me peace of mind whilst I'm at work. I would like someone who is enthusiastic and who uses their own initiative, but also can stick to the way our family works. Unfortunately myself and my husband leave early for work, so getting up early is a must! Being fun and energetic would also be a good quality as I have 3 energetic boys. We are a very open family and like trying new things and looking at different cultures. I would be very happy for my children to learn a new language from their au pair.

The Au pair's job

We are currently looking for an au pair who would assist in the day to day running of our family during the week. We have three boys aged, 8, 6 and 2 ¾. Both parents work, Dad in the film industry as a boom operator and Mum as a school photographer. The hours we work vary, but are generally Monday to Friday. The two older boys go to school 09:00-15:00 and the younger one will start attending nursery Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:30-15:45 from the 6th of September. On Mondays Granny looks after the youngest. There will be an initial period from mid August to around mid September where extra help would be required with the youngest child. As of the 6th of September he will start nursery, but this to begin with will only be around a few hours each day until he is settled there. The help we require would be during the week. As both parents usually have to leave for work by 07:00 you would be responsible for getting the boys up, making them breakfast and helping them get ready for school and nursery. You would then need to take them to school and nursery, which are around a 15-minute walk away. Tuesdays to Fridays we would require you to collect the boys from school and nursery, bring them home and give them a snack. On most days Mum will be home by 16:00 and she will take over from there. On Mondays the boy’s Granny collects them in the morning and keeps them till around 17:30, so you would only be responsible for getting them up, fed and dressed. Mum will collect the boys from Granny. Additional help around the house would be appreciated, such as tidying away breakfast dishes, putting on washing and light housework. The main hours required are as described above, with the bulk of the day from 09:00-15:00 being childfree. On rare occasions the hours may extend and sometimes might include Mondays too, but plenty of notice will be given. Any extra hours such as evenings or weekends can be arranged in advance and extra pay will be given for these. We live in the Southside of Glasgow, which has good bus and train links to the city center. There are lots of local shops, bars, restaurants and parks. We are able to offer a large bright bedroom with ensuite bathroom and there is full internet access. All meals and snacks will be provided. This is very much an au pair experience with pocket money and bed & board for part-time hours, it will not suit someone looking for a full-time or nanny post. Pocket money is negotiable depending on any experience. It may best suit someone who is looking to improve their English or perhaps a part-time student with only a few hours tuition looking for accommodation and help with living costs in the UK. The position will last for a minimum of 6 months or up to 11 months. We require someone to start by the beginning of August. The children are on summer holidays until the 15th of August, so we would ideally like someone to spend the first two weeks of August getting to know the children and settling in. Mum’s work is school term based, so she will be around during this time to help with this process. We have never had an au pair before, but would really like to create an opportunity for so
