Personal introduction

I finished high school last year and was unsure of what to do next, whether to continue my studies, attend university... But there was always one thing I did know I wanted to experience: being an au pair. My mum always told me this job combines two things that I love: helping a family take care of their children (playing, having fun, doing homework...), helping with the housework and cooking. And also the opportunity to discover other cultures and traditions, other ways of doing things, new activities in a new environment. And of course, learning a foreign language. I love it! Maybe because I come from a family that speaks several languages. At home we speak both Catalan and Spanish. Furthermore, my mum's family is half French so we speak French too, and my dad's family grew up in Canada and studied in a British school, so we have heard English at home all our life. I believe one of the best ways to learn about other countries and cultures is to live with a family and become involved with them and their lifestyle. I really like cooking and baking and this year I've learned it's much more fun if you do it with kids! I also enjoy doing housework and I believe I do a pretty good job at it! I love working as an au pair because I like to spend time with kids, and it always surprises me when they make me think twice about things! Being an au pair is a great way to establish ties with a new family in a beautiful way. They become your friends, so it is much more than just a job
